Pritam
Pritam Chakraborty is the son of Prabodh Chakraborty, a gentleman who runs a music school for kids in Kolkata. Obviously, Pritam had an inclination towards music at an early age and grew up to join a Bangla band, Chandrabindoo.
Pritam enrolled for a sound engineering course at the Film and Television Institute, Pune and learned about various forms of music. Hungarian filmmaker Istvan Gaal spotted this talented boy and offered him to compose background music for his film. After completing the course, Pritam moved to Mumbai and started composing music for jingles and TV serials. Pritam also teamed up with Chandrajeet Ganguly (Jeet) to compose music for his friend and director Sanjay Gadhvi's film 'Tere Liye'. Sadly the movie along with its music failed at the box office.
In 2002, Gadhvi got a chance to direct Yashraj Films' 'Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai' and again offered Jeet-Pritam to compose music for the film. All the tracks from the movie became popular and so did Jeet-Pritam. The duo, however, parted due to individual differences and Pritam started working independently. Soon Pritam had a big success in form of 'Dhoom' and he became a house hold name. The success was followed by chart-topping music for films like Chocolate, Garam Masala and Gangster. Pritam established himself in the top league by composing super hit music for 'Dhoom 2', 'Life in A... Metro', 'Singh Is Kinng' and 'Kismat Konnection'. Currently, Pritam can be seen mentoring and judging talents in Zee TV's singing competition show 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa'.
