Jagjit Singh
A multilingual ghazal singer from India, Jagjit Singh can sing in Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Gujarati and Nepali. Jagjit Singh has been trained in Indian Classical Music by three different Gurus at different points of time. Jagjit Singh joined the Indian film industry in 1970 when the ghazal singing was dominated by some famous names like Talat Mahmood and Noor Jehan. But, Jagjit Singh gained success and popularity slowly but surely. His first shot to fame came when he released The Unforgettables album on LP. The same year he also met Chitra Singh, married her and both started singing ghazals in a team. Both eventually became a hit pair and redefined the musical genre of ghazal singing.
After their son's untimely demise, Chitra left singing but Jagjit Singh continued to sing solo. Apart from releasing his private albums, Jagjit Singh also sang for Bollywood as well as regional film industry movies. Some of his famous songs come from movies like Arth, Saath Saath and Babul. In 2003 he was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India and in 2006 came the Teacher's Achievement Award. Some of his most famous tracks are Hontho Se Choo Lo, Tum Ko Dekha Toh Yeh, Yeh Daulat Bhi Le Lo, Koi Fariyaad among others. He has performed in concerts all over the world, the most famous being Parwaaz.
