Lata Mangeshkar BIOGRAPHY
Lata Mangeshkar's career began in 1942 when Master Vinayak gave her a small role in Navyug Chitrapat's Marathi movie Pahili Mangalaa-gaur, in which she sang "Natali Chaitraachi Navalaai". Her first Hindi song was Mata Ek Sapoot Ki Duniya Badal De Tu for the Marathi film, Gajaabhaau (1943). After Master Vinayak's death in 1948, music director Ghulam Haider mentored Lata as a singer. He gave Lata her first major break with the song "Dil Mera Toda" from Majboor (1948). Then came "Aayega Aanewaala" from Mahal (1949) which was a defining moment in her career.
The 1950s saw Lata sing for the era's biggest music directors, including Anil Biswas, Shankar-Jaikishan, Naushad, S. D. Burman, Hemant Kumar, Salil Chowdhury, Khayyam, Ravi, Roshan, Kalyanji-Anandji, Sudhir Phadke, Madan Mohan and Usha Khanna. In 1962, she picked her second Filmfare Award for Kahin Deep Jale Kahin Dil from Bees Saal Baad, composed by Hemant Kumar. After reuniting with S. D. This decade also saw Lata's association with Madan Mohan and Laxmikant-Pyarelal produce a string of hits. She recorded duets with all the leading male singers of her era, including Mukesh, Manna Dey, Mohammed Rafi and Kishore Kumar.
