Madhavan is a popular Indian film actor who unlike other performers started his career rather late at the age of 29. Madhavan made his acting debut with the 2000 film, Alaipayuthey. After this he appeared in the 2002 blockbuster film, Kannathil Muthamittal. Madhavan started his career by doing a talcum powder advertisement for Santosh Sivan who later went on to recommend him to Mani Ratnam for his Tamil film, Iruvar. However, Mani Ratnam felt that Madhavan was too young for the role he had been recommended for.
Hence, Madhavan took to Hindi TV shows and appeared in serials like Saaya, Sea Hawks, Tol Mol Ke Bol and Ghar Jamai. Soon after in 1998, he appeared in Fred Olen Ray’s Inferno. Madhavan’s first Bollywood hit came in 2006 with the film Rang De Basanti along with two other super hits, Rendu and Thambi. So far, Madhavan has appeared in five Mani Ratnam films which also include the Bollywood blockbuster, Guru.
Madhavan is an active member of the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). He is also the lead character in the mobile game, Madhavan’s MIG based on his role in the film Rang De Basanti. In 2009, he will be seen in Sikander, Three Idiots and Teen Patti. He is also a recipient of Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Role and a Tamil Naidu State Film Award for Best Actor.
