Pandit Jasraj
Pandit Jasraj is an Indian classical vocalist belonging to the Mewati Gharana of Hindustani classical music culture. Born in a family of famous vocalists from the same gharana, Pandit Jasraj started training under his father and brother. He declined Bade Ghulam Ali's offer to train him because he was already under training from his father. He joined a famous orchestra as a Tabla player but quickly got fed up of the second hand treatment and vowed to learn singing.
He can effortlessly sing across three and a half octaves and has contributed his unique conception of jugalbandi to Indian music. He has also passed on his craft to the next generations and trained many famous singers of our age, some of whom are Suman Ghosh, Sadhana Sargam, Kala Ramnath and Sanjeev Abhyankar.
He has been organizing musical concerts every year for the past 36 years in memory of his father. He has received the prestigious Padma Vibhushan, the Sangeet Natak Akademi and the Lata Mangeshkar Awards among many others. Some of his albums are Baiju Bawra, Upasna, Darbar, Soul Food and Inspiration. Some Bollywood films for which he has sung are Ladki Sahyadri Ki, Birbal My Brother and 1920.
