Rabindranathan Tagore was a Bengali composer, playwright, poet, novelist and a visual artist. He was also Asia's first Nobel Laureate. Tagore started writing poems at the age of eight and had published his first short stories by the time he was sixteen. His works like Gitanjali, Gora, Ghare-Baire and many more received international acclaim. He was also a cultural reformer who completely transformed Bengali art. The Indian National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana was also penned down by his esteemed self. Along with all his literary works Tagore also strongly opposed the British Rule and supported the Independent India movement though not completely supporting Gandhi and his agenda.

Tagore has traveled far and wide across the world. He also studied at the University College, London. During his journeys he interacted with many contemporaries like Robert Frost, Albert Einstein, H.G. Wells and George Bernard Shaw. Tagore wrote eight novels some of which are Ghore Baire, Gora and Jogajog. All these novels were converted to many languages.

In music and arts, he has written more than two thousand songs and was mainly influenced by the thumri style of music. He started drawing and painting at the age of sixty and held many successful exhibitions of his work in India and abroad. He has also written many short stories, 84 of which can be found in the three volumes of Galpaguchchha. Also a poet, one of his most famous collections is the Gitanjali which won him the Nobel Prize.
