Soumya is a talented Indian playback singer who started working as a dubbing artist just after completing her graduation. Born to reputed singer, B K Sumitra, Soumya started singing at a tender age of seven. She sang for a number of South Indian films. Some of her charts busting tracks are for Greekuveerudu and Nina Pelladatta.

She ventured into Bollywood with the song Aiyyo Aiyyo Rama from the Ram Gopal Varma film, Jungle. Some other films for which she has sung are Pyar Tune Kya Kiya, Company, Dum, Ek Aur Ek Gyarah and Bunty Aur Babli. Some of her non-film albums are Mitti, Dance Fever and Soumya. She received the Startdust Award for Best New Singer in 1993 for the song Laila Laila from Samay.
