Amol Palekar is a renowned Indian actor and director who mostly works for Hindi and Marathi cinema. Amol Palekar started his career in the entertainment industry by doing Marathi experimental stage and later went on to start his own street theatre, Aniket. He made his movie debut in 1971 with the Marathi film, Shantata! Court Chalu Aahe. Following this, he appeared in the break away Bollywood hit, Rajnigandha. In Hindi cinema, he gained much popularity with films like Golmaal, Choti Si Baat and Naram Garam.
After becoming famous as the icon of a ‘Middle Class Optimistic Man’, Amol Palekar turned to film direction. He made his directorial debut with the Marathi film, Aakriet. One of his more famous directorial ventures is the Shahrukh Khan starrer Paheli which also went on to become India’s official entry for the Oscars. He is a trained sketcher and painter and pursues them as hobbies in his free time. Apart from movies, Amol Palekar has also appeared in TV serials, the latest being Kareena Kareena. He is also a proud recipient of the prestigious Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
Ankahee is a 1985 Indian Hindi film about astrology, directed by Amol Palekar and starring Amol Palekar, Deepti Naval and Dr. Shriram Lagoo.
