Madhur Bhandarkar is a famous Hindi film director and writer whose films have went on to win National Awards. Before making films, he worked in a small Video Library. This is where he had access to a large number of films across various genres. After being a former assistant to Ram Gopal Varma, he went on to make his directorial debut with Trishakti in 1999. The film was low-budget and failed to create much hype as expected. Two years later, Madhur came out with Chandni Bar starring Tabu. The film was critically acclaimed and won Madhur his first National Award. After this came Satta, Page 3 and Coroporate. Each of these movies dealt with the dark side of various sections of our society - politics, socialites and businessworld. In 2007 came Traffic Signal which as the name signifies was about the beggars and make shift stalls at traffic lights in India. His latest film was the 2008 Priyanka Chopra starrer Fashion. Madhur is a lifetime member of Asian Academy of Film & Technology. It is a noted fact that all his films have had a female protagonist. However, the next film coming out of Madhur Bhandarkar's platter is Jail in which the protagonist will be played by Neil Nitin Mukesh.
