He Daan Kunkuvacha (1983)
Shyam is a student living in Mumbai with his sister. The latter works to earn money for the brother's education. However, salary alone not being sufficient to fulfill all their needs, she succumbs to the illicit demands of her boss and adopts illegitimate means to eke out the meager income. On revelation of this ugly secret Shyam loses his temper and tries to beat the sister. Frightened, she runs out of the house and is overrun by a passing vehicle. The incident comes as a shock and Shyam begins to drink. In the state of inebriation he reaches village Banevadi. Here he gets a mother in the form of old Yesu. Her dumb daughter Chandra becomes his sister. Turning a new page in life, he begins to work for the welfare of the village, paying special attention to Chandra. Soon the villagers are won over by his dedication and elect him Sarpanch. However, the Patil of the village, ever jealous of his progress, molests Chandra and lays the blame on Shyam.
