Asin Thottumkal started her career as a businesswoman, assisting her dad in the family business of software and exports. She completed her B.A. in English literature at St. Teresa's college and started to train herself in acting from a private acting institute. Before venturing into films, Asin worked as a part-time model endorsing brands like 'Parachute', 'Fairever', 'Close-Up' and 'Mirinda'. Her debut as an actress was with the Malayalam film 'Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka' in 2001. The movie tanked at the box office and Asin's performance went largely unnoticed.
Asin shot to fame with her first Telugu film 'Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi' which also won her a filmfare award for the south. Her movie 'Ghajini' with Surya, which was released both in Tamil and Telegu, went on to become a blockbuster and Asin started received many offers. Since then, Asin has been a part of super hit movies like 'Pokiri' and 'Aalwar'. She has also worked with Kamal Hassan in super hit 'Dasavatharam' which was released in eight different languages. Her Bollywood debut happened with an impressive performance in the mega hit 'Ghajini' starring opposite Aamir Khan.
